I am interested in fitness/bodybuilding competition. I have been going to the gym faithfully for a year less the last 3 months I hardly go. I stopped because of my own stupidity. My body reached the point where I was ready to move on to bigger things,,start a real "diet", experiment with proteins and whats available so I reached out to a few guys who just didn't take me seriously. I felt I lacked the knowledge to move further I needed advice. I reached out to a young woman around my age who is involved already in the fitness world,,competing and training,,to boot she has kids so we are on the same page with kids/work/training lifestyle,,guess not. All I ask is for advice,, a book to read,,anything,,if there is some one in my area I can meet up with great but I do not intend to give up this time. With or without advise I will get there. To those who take the time,, THANK YOU in advance!!!

Jessica, I did my first competition in July & had only 7 weeks to prepare for the ms fitness nationals in september. My advice is be consistent & persistent. There will be times when you will want to stop dieting & just take a break. It's ok to do that as long as you are careful with what you eat & that it is not a long break. The advice I got in a short amount of time to build more muscle was to take in more protein than you do carbs. I ate canned chicken & tuna fish & cut out a lot of my sweets. There are a lot of options out there to eat but I'm still learning of those. I also made sure to get in my fruits & vegetables. As far as anything else, this site has an online personal trainer that is really helpful. You put in what your goals are & it will give you exercises to follow. Talk to any of the professionals at your gym if you are unsure of anything.

ralphie77, Thank You SOOO much for the reply. I had no idea a personal trainer was available on this site, great tip thanks! As far as my diet I have pretty much copied LindaLu's Precontest meal plan and tried to make a list in each category to vary it up. That is hard I have like 5 things in each category which doesn't leave room for variety but it's a start. I stopped eating suger except for what is naturally in food,,I'll cheat here and there cause of cravings but it's pretty much cut out. About that canned Tuna and Ckn,,any good?? reccommend certain ones?? Thanks so much for hittin me up! If you have any other suggestion I'd love to hear them!!

I was wondering for the lady that trained in 7weeks- did you just start working out or did you start from the beginning then?

After you click on the personal trainer link there is a spot right under the Live Lean Today logo that is for a 7 day free trial. It is in bright neon green. Hope that helps. Okay so I just clicked on the link & it is actually for the Live Lean Today website. I don't know where the one went that I used last year, they may have gotten rid of it or maybe I was on a different site. I'm pretty sure it was this one though. Anyway, check out their website & see if it helps.

vweissfl; When I started seriously training for the national contest, I was already working out & at the weight that I wanted to be at so it was just fine tuning. But I still didn't get to where I needed to be. It was fun though & you can do it with a lot of persistence and dicsipline.

Jessica, About the canned tuna & chicken, I buy mine at walmart (its a little cheaper) & I buy either starkist in water for the tuna (low sodium( & Valley Fresh white chicken meat in water. They don't taste that bad plain after you eat them for a while. Good luck!

Start with these steps:
1. work out with weights, 3 times a week 2. eat 1 gram of protein per one pound of lean body mass 3. reduce calorie intake to lose about 2 lbs per week 4. drink plenty of water
