Hi, I have been researching the Ms. Fitness competition and viewing several of the websites the established competitors have out there, but I cannot find any information for 1st time competitors. I will start working with a personal trainer and continue to train myself in Pilates as well as teach aerobics. However, I am unsure as to when and where to start in regards to music, a routine, a costume, etc. Any recommendations or "lessons learned" from your first competition would be greatly appreciated! The Rookie, Natalie

I am also a Dance and Fitness Choreographer and have worked on routines for sportaerobic, Dance and cheerleading teams myself. I am in New York where all the hottest stuff comes from. HEHEHE (That will cause a riot Im sure), but seriously speaking, I work with Beginner thru advanced fitness levels. You can go to the Ms. Fitness Resource page and check out my info. If you want I can provide you with more. Some of the best choreographers are not listed so take time and check it out.

Hi Natalie,
I think everyone prepares differently but here's how I prepared for my first show.
I started everything waaayyy ahead of time to avoid feeling overwhelmed:
September: Hired personal trainer and began a workout program
October: Picked a theme for my routine and began thinking of songs for the music mix
November: Had my music mix made & called seamstress and ordered my Costume and Suit
December: Began working with Cathy Savage for Choreography
January: Began cleaning up my diet.
February: started practicing the "walk" for the bikini round.
March: practice, Practice and more practice!!
April: Show time!
My first show was a huge learning experience. Two things I would recommend is to get feedback from the judges and order a video so that you can critique your own performance. This will greatly help you understand what things to tweak or change for your next show.
Finally, the most important piece of advice I can give you is to ENJOY yourself and have fun!!!
