A large handful a day should be sufficient for a balanced diet.

Every thing you do should be balanced. Anything in excess is bad for health.

I am also one of those who loves to eat nuts and although I'm conscious to my weight I still find time to eat a handful of it in the late afternoon. Based on what I read from different sources a handful of nuts is fine and not fatty so I think there's nothing wrong in consuming it even everyday provided that you will not overeat.

I just can't stop eating mixed nuts after a workout. During the day, I pretty much snack between almonds and fruit. For almonds, I try to limit myself to 1/4 cup. That's about 163 calories, 14.0 g fat, 6.1 g carbohydrates, 6.0 g protein. This is healthy fat so no worries.
