I hope this is not too personal. I'm 35 and currently taking Mircette. I see a marked difference in my body in the three years I've been on the pill. The most obvious being a "thickness" of body that I never had before. I do not believe this is just the "effect" from aging. I know that there is supposed to be a ten lbs weight gain when one first begins the pill, but as I said, it's been three years. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I hope I don't offend anyone. I'm no expert but I think that as long as you continue to take the pill, you will have the extra weight. BC pills make your body think you are pregnant, and when you are pregnant you gain weight to help provide extra nutrients for the baby. You also retain more water.

Hi Tracy, I thought I would share with you my experience on Mircette! I started taking it a few yrs ago due to the low doesage of estrogen that pill contains. The Doc mentioned side effects would be very low, although after taking it for a year or so, I noticed a gain of approx 15+lbs. I stopped taking it about 8 months ago and began my strict exercise and diet training! I have now dropped 20+lbs, and will be entering my first competition this coming winter. Now granted I owe a lot to my trainers and my strive to get into competition, but I did notice a difference in how I felt.... my food cravings.... and weight loss once I cut out the pill! There are many options out there, if you are considering training to compete it may be easier on your system to not be taking something with an estrogen base. I know it made a difference with me, but every body is different Just some food for thought Meg

My best advice is to do what I did--forget about pumping all those chemicals and hormones into your body (in the name of birth control) that have no business being there. Yes, you will gain weight with these methods...there's no way around it. What I did was go to my doctor and get an IUD. No side effects whatsoever--except a little discomfort after insertion (for a few days)...and heavier periods. It's way better than the pill, though, and there's no weight gain!

To be very honest, i believe taking birth control pills is not a good option as it shows many side effects on one's body that is Headache, dizziness, breast tenderness, Nausea, Breakthrough bleeding, Decreased libido and mood swings. I suggest IUD is more suitable as a birth control option. Try it may be that will suit you and might not cause weight gain.
