To whom it may concern:
I have been looking into entering fitness competitions. I love anything to do with fitness and exercise. I was a college gymnast about 5 years ago. Currently, I don't know where to go to train for these fitness events. I know there must be certain skills to put in the routines, places to buy the swim suits, and someone to teach me how to walk and practice interviews.
Thank you,
Katie
There is no single one place to train, there are numerous. For your physique, any well equipped fitness facility/gym will work. Hiring a personal trainer to set you up on a program to head you in the right direction would be a good starting point. If you can't afford a personal trainer, hit the library - there are many good books out there to help you design a routine to follow.
For the routine, there are no mandatory moves. The judges need to see Strength, Flexibity, and Endurance in a high energy routine. You may show these elements in any manner you choose, just choose moves you can execute flawlessly.
Buy your swimsuit anywhere. It just needs to look good on you and meet clothing regulations. Do not go to the expense of having a custom made suit with all the foo foo. When you make finals a swimsuit will be issued to you. The judges are scoring the hard work you've put into your body and not the suit.
To learn to walk, put on a pair of high heels and spend as much time in them as possible. Walking smoothly in heels is more a matter of time spent in heels. Concentrate on keeping your posture erect. Do not lean forward in your shoes and push your butt out. When you are comfortable walking in heels start doing it in front of a full length mirror to perfect your posture and begin practicing model turns.
If you have not had any experience in public speaking, start looking for every opportunity to do so. Volunteer at a local school to come in and encourage them to become active by sharing your gymnastic career with the students. Memorize stories, poems, anything and head to the local senior center and entertain them. Be creative. If there is a Toast Masters club in your area, that is their exact mission - to help people improve their public speaking skills.
Get creative. If opportunities are not in your area, introduce them to your area.
