I'm looking into Ms. Fitness competitions because I've had the "fitness itch" for as long as I can remember. I was a competitive gymnast for about five years and I'm still very active today, currently working on PT certification. My question is- What should my goals be at this point? I'm definitely healthy. I know I'm not competition-ready though. Any help you can provide on a suggested weight, caloric intake, how many days and the length of cardio and strength sessions...all would be great. Current stats: Age: 25 5'5" 127lb Thanks!

Tatiana Anderson has an excellent book out called Step by Step Guide To Fitness competion Success www.tatianaanderson.com, Cathy Savage has an excellent video for contest prep www.cathysavagefitness.com, Linda Cuzamo has an E Book on Fitness and Figure Prep at www.Fitnessbc.com Any of these sources will give you an idea of what the judges are looking for and what your goals should be for contest prep. You should do great, it sounds like you have an excellent foundation with a background in competitve gymnastics. Since you are new to fitness competition, I would suggest hiring a choreographer/coach to help you put a fitness routine together and give you some direction.

Thanks LindaLu! Those all sound like great resources. I just found a personal trainer and nutritionist that's so close I can walk to his gym! I think I'm going to start out competing in figure just to save money in the beginning. I'm hoping that will help me "learn the ropes" and get in better shape until I can save up for a choreographer.
Thanks again!

Hi, A lot of girls put their own routines together and are still successful. Figure is great prep for finess. Either way it sounds like you are on the right track. Go Get em Girl!

I'm so glad you said that. I was considering doing my own choreography, but I didn't know if that was a ridiculous idea or not for a beginner. I choreographed my own floor and beam routines quite often, so as long as I get the required moves in I think it could work. I think that will be the next step after my first figure contest. Thanks again!
