I am so excited because I have wanted to compete in Ms. Fitness for so so long, but how do I get started?? I workout a few times/wk, but it is so hard for me to gain muscle. I am 5'6" & I weigh 110lbs. I am 28yrs old & a mother of 2 boys, 12 & 5. I love fitness, but I do not have much money. I just moved into my own place & I made sure that the apt had a fitness center. It does, but it's pretty small. What I wanna work on the hardest is: my butt, my abs, & my thighs. I'll take supplements if I need to. What's the best protein powder?? PLEASE HELP!!!

Kudos to you on your goals to compete. There are several good protein powders, just look for one that is lower in carbs and fat and has about 20 grams of good blend of quality protein per scoop

It is very important that you eat small meals every 2 to 3 hours. Your diet should be high in protien and include carbs. As your day progresses your carbs should be from leafy vegetable rather than rices or breads. You can never take in too much protien especially if you want to gain weight. Some good protien bars are the med rx bars they are tasty and have about 32 grams of protien. Also, muscle milk is a good osurce of protien and helps you gain weight because their is a lot cars and fat in it, but assured it is a good source of fat. The most important thing is that you eat and never skip a meal. Eat alot of eggs bananas tuna chicken nuts and fish. good luck

I really need some help. I want to begin training but I am not sure where to start. I am 42 years old, 25 pounds over weight, a little flabby in the thighs, back arms, and lower abs. I used to weight train from ages 14 through 30 but my husband did not like the muscles. It has always been a dream of mine to compete. Please help.

If you want to firm up you will need to do some type of resistance training. If you feel weight training has made you bulk up in the past why not try Pilates,Swimming,Yoga or hire a personal trainer to create a plan specifically for you. Let's face it as we get older we begin to lose muscle which lowers our metabolisim. I definitely recommend weight training to everyone over forty because of the many benefits; weight training increases bone density, metabolisim, functional strength and keeps you looking young as well as many other benefits. Cardio 3-4 times a week as well as shopping the outer perimeter of the super market doesn't hurt either.
